1887 Schoolhouse Historic Site Needs Saturday Work Day Volunteers

Clean-Up Highlights Historic Board’s Commitment to Windermere’s History

WINDERMERE, ORANGE COUNTY, FL (July 8, 2013)  – Windermere Historic Board will be hosting a work day and clean-up of the 1887 Schoolhouse National Register Historic Site on Saturday, July 13, from 8am-3pm at 7th Avenue and Forest Street.  Volunteers are needed to clear brush, vines, weeds, move mulch and complete restoration pruning of historic orange groves and plantings on the site.  Volunteers should dress in jeans, closed in shoes, sunglasses for eye protection, protective sleeves from thorny vines and sunscreen.  Water, gloves, loppers and snacks will be provided.   This is an great opportunity for students from middle school, high school and scouting groups to earn community service and learn about local history,  If you have extra hand pruners, loppers, tools or wheel barrows please bring them with you to the clean-up with your name clearly marked on the tools.  The goal is to clean up the area in preparation for planting and irrigation as outlined by the charette and landscaping plan created by Town citizens and volunteers.  For more information or to RSVP please contact or Email<>  Mobile: 407-579-4621.
