Dozens of kids joined our Windermere police officers for a day of fun on the water. There were also minnow races, cornhole, and kids were able to pick out their own fishing poles as well!

EMERGENCY LANE CLOSURE: Crews from Orange County Utilities are completing emergency repairs near 517 E. 6th Avenue, shutting down one lane and the sidewalk.
The closure is expected to last less than 24 hours. We will keep you updated if the closure lasts longer than anticipated.

Too often, unused prescription drugs end up in the wrong hands, which can have dangerous consequences. That's why the Windermere Police Department is participating in the DEA's Drug Take Back program again this fall!
Bring your unused, unneeded, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medication to 614 Main Street on Saturday, October 24th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
No illicit substances, needles, or inhalers will be accepted.
ATTENTION: Tennis key and boat ramp pass renewals are currently on hold until December 1st.

The Town of Windermere extends its condolences to the family of former Mayor Karen Ruenheck, who recently passed away. Ruenheck served as Mayor from 1998 - 2002, and on Town Council from 1988 - 1998.
Ruenheck was instrumental in restoring the Town Hall and establishing the library. She was also the director of Volunteer Services at Health Central and took pride in boosting not only the quantity but quality of volunteers. This included competitive internships for promising high school students.
Mayor Andy Williams reflected on her contributions to the Town.
“Karen Ruenheck was part of a generation of leaders who helped preserve the character and history that makes Windermere so special. Long before my own service in Town government, Karen was giving her time to this community — from serving on Town Council and as Mayor to helping raise funds for the preservation of our historic Town Hall. Her service left a lasting mark on Windermere, and we are grateful for the time, energy and care she gave to our Town. Our thoughts are with her family and friends," Williams said.

The program is designed to recognize officers who demonstrate continued growth, leadership, experience, and a commitment to professional excellence. In addition to successfully completing each testing phase, officers must meet established requirements for years of service, leadership experience, performance, and disciplinary history.
WPD also works with criminal justice professors from the University of Central Florida to help ensure our testing processes are validated and consistent with professional standards.

Officer Cam DeCarlo — successfully completed Officer II testing
Officer Jerrell Ogletree — successfully completed Officer II testing

The Town of Windermere and Mayor Andy Williams invite you to join us for our annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony this Friday evening at 6 p.m. in Town Square Park.
Town leaders will be joined by keynote speaker Jimmy Brown, a former FDNY firefighter who rushed to save others at the World Trade Center 25 years ago on September 11, 2001.
We hope to see you there for this evening of reflection, honoring the fallen, the survivors, and those who answered the call to serve following the attacks.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE – LAKE BESSIE BOAT RAMP
As part of the Bessie and Butler Stormwater Improvement Project, new sod has recently been installed along the Lake Bessie lakefront.
To allow the new grass time to properly establish and protect the newly completed improvements, the Lake Bessie Boat Ramp has been temporarily closed and locked. The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately two weeks.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and cooperation while the new sod becomes established.
