Ward Trail & Pedestrian Bridge – Tree Marking Update!

The Town recently conducted an on-site tree walk for the Ward Trail & Pedestrian Bridge (Safe Routes to School LAP Project) to finalize tree preservation and removals along the project alignment. Residents may notice yellow ribbon and red/pink tape along portions of the trail. These markings are part of the Ward Trail & Pedestrian Bridge project and identify trees designated for preservation or removal under the approved construction plans.

The walkthrough was led by the Chair of the Town’s Tree Board and reflects months of collaborative review, site analysis, and coordination by the full Tree Board to identify opportunities to preserve as much tree canopy as possible while advancing this important community connectivity project.

During the visit, trees were marked using two colors for clarity:
• Yellow ribbon — Trees to be preserved
• Red/Pink tape — Trees required to be removed

This field verification ensured that the extensive pre-work completed by the Tree Board would be adhered to during construction. Joining the Tree Board Chair on the walkthrough were the Assistant Town Manager, members of the Public Works team, Kimley-Horn Engineers (the Town’s engineers of record), the Kimley-Horn Landscape Architect, and representatives from DRMP (the required Construction Engineering and Inspection firm for the project).

Tree and grubbing work for the project is anticipated to begin in early February.

The Town extends its sincere appreciation to the entire Tree Board for their dedication and volunteer service, and to the Tree Board Chair for braving a cold morning to assist with this critical on-site verification and ensure the correct trees were marked.
